Indie studio Reuben Games has launched Dead Static Drive, a stylized survival-horror adventure often dubbed “Grand Theft Cthulhu.” The game is now available on Xbox Game Pass and PC via Steam.

Set in a nightmarish reimagining of 1980s America, Dead Static Drive follows Hearst, a lone traveler searching for their missing parents as society quietly collapses. With only a mysterious letter as guidance, players must scavenge, survive, and uncover the truth behind the paranoia gripping small-town America—while eldritch horrors lurk behind neon lights and empty highways.
Blending open-world exploration with survival and narrative choice, the game invites players to drive across haunted backroads, steal cars, manage fuel, and decide how to handle both human and inhuman threats. Every encounter can be approached with stealth, combat, or conversation, powered by a branching narrative engine that reacts to player decisions.
Creator Mike Blackney describes the experience as a deeply personal twist on the classic road trip fantasy. Drawing inspiration from the works of David Lynch, T.E.D. Klein, and Gene Wolfe, Dead Static Drive captures the surreal beauty and quiet dread of a decaying America—where every tank of gas might take you closer to salvation or ruin.
