Nintendo and Koei Tecmo developer AAA Games Studio have announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch on January 15 for the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside a free content update for the original Nintendo Switch version.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition brings enhanced features including 4K resolution, mouse support for building and designing, an in-game megafoon using the system’s microphone, online play for up to 12 players, and CameraPlay for connecting compatible USB cameras to see friends’ reactions in-game. Players can also enjoy all the latest updates and seasonal content from the original game.
The free update introduces a host of new activities, including the grand opening of a hotel run by Kapp’n’s family, expanded storage for homes, the ability to tidy your island at Resetti’s Rommelruimerij, and exclusive Nintendo Switch Online features such as Sluimereiland, allowing players to design and share up to three islands with friends. Additional collaborations include collectible Nintendo-themed items, LEGO® objects, and amiibo support for characters and items from The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon.
Players can purchase the digital or physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition starting January 15, or opt for a paid upgrade package if they already own the original Switch version. Both versions offer new ways to explore, design, and interact with the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
