Forgotten Eras, a Greek fantasy Metroidvania inspired by Balkan and Slavic mythology, is currently in development by Alexander Gorbenko and his Larissa-based studio, Behind the Hump. Built with Unreal Engine 5.2 — with plans to upgrade to 5.6 for release — the game combines atmospheric folklore-inspired worldbuilding with deep transformation mechanics and rune-based powers.

The newly released gameplay teaser and demo transport players to the Whispering Forest, a mystical region filled with ancient runes, magical fog, and dangerous creatures. The demo introduces key elements such as battles against the corrupted Domovoy, encounters with the companion Kolobok, and exploration through transformations and rune abilities. Players can activate runes to clear pathways, solve environmental puzzles, and uncover secrets within lush, hand-crafted environments inspired by Slavic traditions.
Alongside its detailed world and combat systems, Forgotten Eras offers a Photo Mode, dynamic platforming, a progression-based Talent Tree, and companions including Kolobok, Avena, and Morana. Each distinct region features its own spells, interactions, and visual style, supported by an orchestral soundtrack rooted in folklore motifs. A cinematic trailer further showcases the game’s mythic tone and artistic direction.
A Webtoon adaptation expanding Forgotten Eras’ narrative is also in production, bringing its mythological world to illustrated form. Meanwhile, a Kickstarter campaign aims to fund development of the first major zone, the Whispering Forest. The campaign supports custom animations, new regions and characters, full localization into 15+ languages, and an original soundtrack. Backers will gain early access, exclusive digital and physical rewards such as art books and vinyl OSTs, and even the opportunity to appear in-game.
