3D Realms and Anshar Studios have released a new overview trailer for the fast-paced cooperative first-person shooter Painkiller, alongside a free playable demo now available for PC via Steam as part of Steam Next Fest: October 2025 Edition. The full game is set to launch on October 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

A reimagining of the classic action series, Painkiller drops players into the depths of Purgatory, where they must earn redemption by battling demonic hordes in brutal, high-speed combat. Wielding a mix of reimagined and original weapons, players fight through sprawling gothic landscapes to halt fallen angel Azazel’s invasion of Earth.
Designed for solo play or up to three-player online co-op, the game emphasizes relentless action and versatility. Players can leap, hook, and dash across massive arenas while experimenting with diverse weapons and special abilities. Four distinct characters—Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch—each bring unique traits and upgrades to the battlefield, allowing for different playstyles and team compositions.
In addition to its campaign, Painkiller includes the intense “Rogue Angel” mode, a separate roguelike experience where players face handcrafted arenas, collect tarot cards and weapons, and survive escalating challenges against monstrous bosses.
