Hardcore Space Combat Simulator In The Black Launches First Public Demo During Steam Next Fest

Developer and publisher Impeller Studios has announced that In The Black—the hardcore space combat simulator from veterans of X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Far Cry, and Crysis—will debut its first public demo during Steam Next Fest from October 13 to 20, 2025. The demo will remain permanently available on Steam after the event, giving players continued access ahead of the game’s Early Access launch later this year on PC via Steam.

Formerly known under its working title Starfighter Inc., In The Black has been in development for over a decade as a true passion project focused on authentic, physics-based zero-G dogfighting. Built on real science and designed with deep respect for classic space sims, the game has already earned the prestigious Atomic Rockets Seal of Approval.

Set 200 years in the future within our solar system, players take on the role of mercenary pilots working for powerful corporations locked in brutal resource wars. In The Black features single-player missions, co-op PvE combat, and team-based PvP battles, all centered on deep ship customization, realistic flight systems, and fully supported joystick and HOTAS controls through partnerships with Logitech and Thrustmaster.
