Painkiller, the reimagined take on the iconic first-person shooter franchise, will release on October 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, publisher 3D Realms and developer Anshar Studios have announced. Digital pre-orders are now live.

This new vision of the cult classic embraces brutal, high-speed action across gothic battlegrounds. Players take on the role of one of four Champions, condemned souls trapped in Purgatory and offered a shot at redemption. Their mission: stop the fallen angel Azazel before he unleashes Hell upon Earth.
Painkiller features full solo play and three-player online co-op, allowing players to team up and face endless waves of demonic enemies and massive bosses. Classic weapons like the Stakegun return alongside new infernal tools of destruction. Combat is fast and fluid, with players able to dash, jump, and grapple through richly designed biomes while unleashing chaos with enhanced abilities and tarot-card upgrades.
Pre-orders are available in two versions. The Standard Edition is priced at $39.99/€39.99 and includes the “Iron Crusade” skin pack, offering character and weapon skins for early adopters. Console players who pre-order the physical version will also receive the exclusive “Burnished Pride” weapons pack. The $49.99/€49.99 Deluxe Edition adds three post-launch DLC drops, each featuring additional skins for weapons and characters.
Whether you go it alone or team up in co-op, Painkiller is gearing up to deliver a punishing blend of style, speed, and supernatural gunplay when it launches this October.
