As the August 22 release date for Dying Light: The Beast approaches, Techland has released a deep dive into one of the game’s most visceral elements: its weapon systems. In a new developer update titled Behind the Beast: Weapons & Playstyles, Game Director Nathan Lemaire walks fans through how the revamped combat mechanics will shape the way you survive—and dominate—in this savage sequel.
Players eager for a taste of the game’s new rhythm can now see how everyday objects have been turned into deadly tools of survival, and how the line between man and monster blurs not only in the story but also in how you fight. Whether you’re smashing skulls with makeshift clubs or unleashing your evolving beast abilities in a frenzy of violence, combat in The Beast is more dynamic and personalized than ever.

Today, Techland also unveiled a brand-new trailer titled Behind the Beast: Explore Castor Woods, offering a closer look at the eerie open world of Dying Light: The Beast. In the video, Art Director Katarzyna Tarnacka-Polito walks viewers through the inspirations behind the game’s diverse biomes, shedding light on what makes Castor Woods such a distinct and atmospheric setting.
Set in the lush, decaying expanse of Castor Woods—a once-idyllic valley now infested with the undead—Dying Light: The Beast thrusts you back into the role of Kyle Crane. Years after the events of Dying Light, Crane returns as something… different. Captured and mutated by a twisted figure known as the Baron, he now walks a razor’s edge between humanity and monstrosity, forced to master both if he hopes to exact his revenge.
Blending first-person parkour, brutal melee combat, and survival horror with a day-and-night cycle that’s long defined the series, The Beast pushes the formula further. The game invites players to experience two distinct playstyles—one rooted in survival, the other in unrelenting savagery. Switching between them unlocks tactical variety and unleashes Kyle’s inner rage, making each encounter with the undead or rival factions a brutal dance of instinct and choice.
The title supports full 4-player co-op, shared progression, and introduces drivable off-road vehicles for wide-open traversal through Castor Woods’ varied biomes—from sleepy tourist towns and swampy fields to abandoned industrial complexes. All of it is powered by breathtaking next-gen visuals and packed with environmental storytelling.
Dying Light: The Beast launches on August 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. And as a bonus, players who purchased the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 Stay Human will receive this beastly sequel for free. Pre-orders are now live—and come with the Hero of Harran Bundle as a bonus.
