2K and Gearbox Software have unveiled the official story trailer for Borderlands 4, offering the first detailed look at the game’s dark new setting, brutal antagonist, and chaotic resistance storyline. The mayhem-heavy looter shooter returns this September with a new cast of Vault Hunters, explosive gear, and upgraded traversal mechanics.

Set on the war-torn hidden planet of Kairos, Borderlands 4 follows four Vault Hunters as they crash-land and are immediately enslaved by the Timekeeper—a tyrannical ruler who controls the population via cybernetic spine implants called Bolts. With revolution brewing and chaos erupting after a cosmic disaster, players must join the Crimson Resistance and take the fight to the dictator’s elite Commanders in a last-ditch bid for freedom.
The game features double-jumping, gliding, dodging, and fixed-point grappling to help players navigate massive environments filled with bandits, beasts, and heavily armed enemies. Both solo and co-op play (up to four players) are supported, alongside billions of loot combinations, high-octane boss fights, and a cast that mixes returning legends with new fan favorites—like a particularly confident Claptrap.
Borderlands 4 launches September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is slated for later in 2025.
