Microsoft has unveiled two new handheld gaming devices—the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X—developed in collaboration with ASUS. Both systems are set to release this holiday season across 30+ countries, including the US, UK, Japan, and much of Europe. Pricing and pre-order information will be announced at a later date.

Designed for play-anywhere gaming, both handhelds run Windows 11 and give players access to a vast gaming library across Xbox, Game Pass, Steam, Battle.net, and more. You can play natively, via cloud gaming, or through Remote Play from an Xbox console. At startup, the device boots directly into a new Xbox full screen experience, streamlining game access and performance for handheld users.
The Xbox Ally and Ally X feature a new Game Bar overlay, controller-friendly UI, and seamless integration with ASUS Armoury Crate for customizing input and system settings. The devices include familiar Xbox controller elements, contoured grips for comfort, and accessibility features tailored for handhelds.
The Xbox Ally is a value-focused model featuring an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage—great for casual and mobile gamers. The Xbox Ally X takes things further with a more powerful AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB of RAM, 1TB storage, and added features like impulse triggers for enhanced tactile feedback.
Microsoft is also introducing enhancements like a handheld-optimized Roblox experience and a forthcoming program to identify games tailored for handheld play. New Xbox Ally users will receive access to Game Pass, and both devices support Gaming Copilot, a smart assistant for helping players get more out of their gaming sessions.
