Publisher Dotemu and developer The Game Kitchen have announced that NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound, a 2D side-scrolling action platformer and spiritual successor to the classic franchise, will launch for PlayStation 4 & 5 (NL/BE, US), Xbox One & Series X|S (US), Switch, and PC (Steam) on July 31. A demo will be available for PC from June 9 to 16 as part of Steam Next Fest: June 2025 Edition.

Set immediately after the events of the original NES Ninja Gaiden, Ragebound follows Kenji Mozu, a young Hayabusa Clan ninja who must rise in Ryu Hayabusa’s absence to battle an onslaught of demons spilling from the underworld. He’s joined by Kumori, a deadly kunoichi from the Black Spider Clan, and together they must overcome their clan rivalry to stop the demonic invasion.
Players can expect razor-sharp platforming, boss-level behemoths, hidden collectibles, secret missions, and upgradable combat abilities in a high-speed combat experience that channels the legacy of the original trilogy.
The game features pixel art visuals and a soundtrack led by Sergio de Prado, with guest tracks from Keiji Yamagishi, Ryuichi Niita, and Kaori Nakabai, legendary composers from the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy. NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound brings precision action, two playable characters with distinct movesets, and stylish 2D combat into a modernized retro framework worthy of the name.
