The gates of Purgatory are about to crack open: Painkiller, the gritty reimagining of the cult-classic shooter developed by Anshar Studios and published by 3D Realms, is inviting players to join its Closed Technical Test, running from June 4 to June 16. This limited-access test will give selected players an early hands-on look at the game’s brutal action and gothic world, while helping developers fine-tune the chaos.

Developed with both solo and co-op play in mind, Painkiller throws players into the role of a condemned Champion seeking redemption. Trapped between Heaven and Hell, you’re tasked with stopping Azazel—an exiled angel preparing to unleash demonic forces upon Earth. You’ll face grotesque horrors, including his three monstrous Nephilim offspring, across sprawling, atmospheric environments.
Combat is fast, furious, and full of options. Use iconic Painkiller weapons, execute slick movement tricks like dashes and grapples, and enhance your playstyle with powerful tarot cards. Choose from four distinct characters—Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch—each with unique abilities designed for aggressive synergy in co-op play.
Spots for the Technical Test are limited, so those eager to rip into early demon-slaying mayhem should sign up quickly: https://sabr.gg/PK-Sign-Up
Painkiller is set to release later this year and will be available via Steam.
