George R.R. Martin and FromSoftware team up once again—this time, for the big screen.
Bandai Namco and A24 have officially announced a live-action film adaptation of Elden Ring, the award-winning action RPG developed by FromSoftware. The adaptation will be written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War), and produced in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, whose lore helped shape the original game’s mythos.

The film is being produced by Peter Rice, alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, as well as Vince Gerardis and Martin himself. No casting or release window has been announced yet.
Originally launched in 2022, Elden Ring was created under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki with worldbuilding support from Martin, blending FromSoftware’s signature dark fantasy style with a sprawling open-world structure. The game has since sold over 30 million copies worldwide, and its universe is still expanding.
The upcoming film aims to translate the atmospheric intensity, brutal combat, and mythic storytelling of Elden Ring into a cinematic experience. With Garland at the helm, fans can likely expect a grounded but cerebral take on the Lands Between.
This announcement arrives just ahead of two major Elden Ring projects:
- Elden Ring: Nightreign, a co-op-focused action spinoff, launches worldwide on May 30, 2025.
- Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, an all-in-one package for Nintendo Switch 2, lands later this year, bundling the base game, 2024’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, new armor sets, and customization options for Torrent, your spectral steed.
