Bethesda Softworks and developer id Software have released the official launch trailer for DOOM: The Dark Ages, the next entry in the legendary first-person shooter series.

Serving as a prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, this new chapter dives into the early days of the DOOM Slayer, offering a more cinematic and lore-rich experience. Set in a grim, medieval-inspired world where dark fantasy and heavy sci-fi collide, The Dark Ages introduces players to the Slayer’s origin story as a mythic weapon forged to battle Hell itself. The game is entirely single-player and developed using the latest idTech engine, bringing visceral combat and over-the-top visuals to a new setting.
Gameplay features include revamped melee and ranged combat, the addition of brutal new weapons like the Shield Saw, and large-scale encounters that take place both on foot and while piloting massive machines of war. Players will ride a fierce Mecha Dragon into combat and control the towering Atlan mech to turn the tide in larger battles. The enhanced glory kill system makes a return, with new animations and contextual finishers.
DOOM: The Dark Ages also introduces the most expansive levels in the franchise yet, featuring diverse and dangerous environments ranging from ancient hellscapes to haunted forests and sprawling ruined citadels. The campaign takes players through several never-before-seen realms, each packed with secrets, challenges, and a wide variety of demonic enemies to face. The Slayer’s journey is both personal and epic, as he resists a dark force seeking to wipe him from existence.
The game will launch on May 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. It will also be included with Xbox Game Pass from day one.
