In a recent interview published via Xbox Wire, series creator Ed Annunziata revealed that remastered versions of Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time are officially in development. These enhanced editions will be handled by Annunziata and members of the original development team, aiming to reintroduce the beloved Sega Genesis titles to a modern audience.
Once both remasters are complete, work will begin on a brand-new, third entry in the Ecco series—marking the first original installment in decades. According to Annunziata, the upcoming game will reflect contemporary design philosophies and harness modern GPU capabilities, all while staying true to the spirit of the originals.
A teaser website, eccothedolphin.com, is now live, featuring a countdown that ends on April 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET.
