11 bit studios has unveiled Frostpunk 1886, a new standalone entry in the Frostpunk franchise, fully reimagined in Unreal Engine. This new project revisits and expands the original’s city-building and society survival mechanics, marking a bold return to New London’s icy foundations.

Frostpunk 1886 is more than a visual overhaul. Set during the onset of the Great Storm, it introduces new laws, gameplay systems, and a brand-new Purpose path—offering fresh moral challenges for veterans and newcomers alike. The shift to Unreal Engine also means long-requested mod support is finally on the table, alongside the promise of future DLC.
Development on Frostpunk 1886 began earlier this year, with release planned for 2027. The game runs parallel to the continued evolution of Frostpunk 2, which remains in active development with free updates, console support, and DLC. Frostpunk 1886 can already be wishlisted on Steam, with more details to come in the months ahead.
