After 92 hours, it’s done. The credits roll, Henry and Hans are once again the kingdom’s unlikely heroes. Bonds were forged, romances blossomed like wildflowers in an open field—only to wither just as swiftly under the merciless weight of war in Bohemia. Against the overwhelming might of Prague, our stronghold in Suchhold stood on the brink for what felt like an eternity. But in the end, virtues like friendship, courage, and… sheer willpower prevailed. Or did they?

Because if I’m honest, willpower is exactly what I lacked in those final 30 hours. Knock down that ladder, eliminate those intruders, celebrate (temporarily) with beer, wine, and … Godwin. That damned Godwin, who by the end had nothing left to say but that. That blessed Godwin, who, despite his limited inspiration, remains ‘my man.’
That blessed Godwin, who, despite his limited inspiration, remains ‘my man.’
Meanwhile, Hans Capon had all but vanished from the stage, unless I actively sought him out for advice. Anyway, at least my half-hearted attempts at romance with Rosa and Katherine kept me engaged—though they all ended in rejection. If only I had washed myself in that pig trough more often.
Where the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance built up to its climax with real momentum, the sequel faltered, weighed down by repetitive combat encounters that overstayed their welcome. Yet, this did nothing to diminish the impression I had already formed. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, following in the wake of Baldur’s Gate 3’s masterpiece, has breathed additional life into the narrative RPG genre, thanks to its immersive world and NPCs who talk, act, and feel like real, unique individuals.
The gaming industry desperately needed something like this.
And the gaming industry desperately needed something like this—if we don’t want to slip further down the bland path that AI-driven game development seems to be carving out for us. I hope to see more games like this—where the intrinsic value of gaming as a source of joy and entertainment remains intact, where gameplay freedom isn’t arbitrarily shackled, and where a player’s imagination is given free rein to roam.
In a world where many games are confined by rigid structures and scripted experiences, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II stands out by offering a vast, open world where players aren’t forced into predefined roles or paths. It empowers players to shape their own stories and live out their fantasies without unnecessary restrictions. The true value of role-playing lies in its ability to give players the freedom to explore and create, allowing imagination to drive the experience rather than following a fixed narrative.
The quality of experiencing an unbounded space for creativity and personal expression.
This is the essence—not the quantity, like duration or the frequency spent on it, but the quality of experiencing an unbounded space for creativity and personal expression, where the journey is as unique as the player themselves. And this intense game has given that to me.
Now, let that remaining DLC come and deliver me even further!
