3D Realms and Anshar Studios have announced a modern reimagining of Painkiller, the classic first-person shooter, set to launch in fall 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Revealed during the Future Games Show, this new take on the legendary franchise promises fast-paced, brutal combat set against gothic landscapes, backed by a heavy metal soundtrack. Players will battle through purgatory with an arsenal of devastating weapons, including nods to the original game alongside new creations, as they fight to stop the fallen angel Azazel’s invasion of Earth.
Featuring both solo and online co-op gameplay for up to three players, Painkiller introduces four playable characters—Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch—each with unique abilities to enhance combat. Players can wield tarot cards to upgrade their skills, rank up to expand their arsenal, and explore vast, nightmarish biomes filled with grotesque creatures, including Azazel’s monstrous offspring, the Nephilim.
The game will offer high-speed movement mechanics, including jumping, dashing, and grappling across its eerie environments, delivering an intense FPS experience. Painkiller is set to arrive later this year, with more details available on the official website and social media channels.
